CMA CGM launched its dedicated air cargo business back in 2021, and since then, they've built up a fleet of eight freighters – five Boeing 777Fs, one Airbus A330F, and two Boeing 747Fs. But here's the kicker: they've got eight Airbus A350Fs scheduled for delivery starting in 2027. That's a serious fleet expansion on the horizon.
By bringing maintenance capabilities in-house through this acquisition, CMA CGM is essentially future-proofing its air cargo operations. Damien Mazaudier, the Senior Vice President of CMA CGM's Air Division, put it this way: as the fleet continues to grow, they'll be able to rely on Crystal Aero Solutions' expertise to support operations across several strategic platforms.
The deal is still subject to employee consultation procedures, and financial terms haven't been disclosed yet. But the direction is clear – CMA CGM is doubling down on air freight.
