Recently, AD Ports Group and French shipping giant CMA CGM announced a significant expansion of their collaboration, focusing on the development and operation of the New East Mole multi-purpose terminal at Pointe Noire port in the Republic of Congo. This project marks the next phase of their partnership, which is set to enhance global port operations and further solidify their strategic alliance.

Under the agreement, AD Ports Group will hold the majority stake in the joint venture, with both companies investing together in the new terminal project. The first phase of the project will involve an investment of approximately $220 million, which will fund the construction of a 400-meter-long berth with a depth of 16 meters, as well as a 10-hectare logistics zone. As the project progresses through the concession period, total investments are expected to exceed $500 million. The terminal will handle containers, general cargo, and bulk cargo, providing modern infrastructure to boost trade and logistics in the region.

AD Ports Group secured a 30-year concession for the New East Mole terminal in 2023, with the potential for extension. This partnership with CMA CGM builds upon the long history of the French shipping giant in Congo, where it holds a significant share of the market. CMA CGM ranks second in imports and transshipment operations in Congo, with an estimated 35% share of the container market in the country over the past few years.

This collaboration is not only an important strategic move for both companies but also a step forward in strengthening the Republic of Congo's position in global trade. Mohamed Eidha Al Menhali, Regional CEO of AD Ports Group, stated that this partnership will help transform the Republic of Congo into a major hub for maritime trade, with container throughput expected to grow by 3% to 5% annually in the medium term. He emphasized that the project would inject new momentum into the economic development of Congo and improve logistics efficiency, providing a powerful support system for the global trade network.

Previously, AD Ports Group and CMA CGM successfully partnered on several other projects, including the construction of a new container terminal at Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, which became operational in December 2024. This project further strengthens the two companies' strategic collaboration in the global port industry.

With this new partnership, AD Ports Group and CMA CGM are not only reinforcing their ties in the Republic of Congo but also paving the way for sustained growth in the global port logistics sector. The success of this project is expected to set an example for port development in other regions, while promoting modernization and sustainability in the global shipping industry.
