China’s Air Cargo Giant Just Went Digital – And It Changes How You Book

If you've ever spent hours emailing back and forth just to get a quote on an airfreight shipment, you know the drill. Wait for a reply. Chase for availability. Hope the rates don't change before you lock it in. It's slow, it's manual, and in 2026, it feels painfully outdated.

Well, that just changed for one of China's biggest cargo carriers.

The announcement that matters

On August 27, Air China Cargo flipped the switch on something that's been a long time coming. The airline officially brought its cargo capacity onto cargo.one – the first global digital distribution partnership in Air China Cargo's history.

For freight forwarders in Europe and North America, that means instant access to real-time quotes, bookings, and tracking on Air China Cargo services. No more waiting. No more back-and-forth. Just point, click, and book.

What's actually on offer?

The initial rollout covers major Chinese gateways – Shanghai Pudong, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Hangzhou. Forwarders can book general cargo and express services up to 5,000 kg per shipment. And this is just the beginning – more markets and capacity products are set to follow in the coming months.

Air China Cargo operates a fleet of 24 dedicated freighters, plus significant belly capacity on Air China's passenger services. Its network spans 30 all-cargo routes to 14 countries across Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East, backed by over 1,500 overland trucking routes. That's a lot of capacity that just became a whole lot easier to access.

Why this matters for your supply chain

Lei Wang, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Air China Cargo, called it "an important milestone" in the airline's digitalization journey. Moritz Claussen, co-CEO of cargo.one, described it as giving forwarders "a valuable new gateway to its sought-after capacity to and from China".

Translation: if you're moving air cargo in or out of China, you now have a faster, more transparent way to book space on one of the country's largest carriers. That's good news for anyone tired of playing phone tag with airline sales desks.

But here's the thing about digital booking

Having access to a platform is one thing. Knowing how to use it strategically – and having a partner who can help you navigate the nuances – is another.

That's where experience still matters. A booking platform gives you rates and availability. A good logistics partner gives you advice on which route actually makes sense for your cargo, what the alternative options are if capacity tightens, and how to structure your shipments to avoid costly surprises.

This is where we come in

At Xiamen AE Global, we've been moving air freight through China's busiest gateways since 2018. We're a government-licensed company with IATA, FIATA, FMC, and NVOCC credentials – which means when a carrier like Air China Cargo opens up digital booking, we don't just read about it. We're already integrating it into our clients' shipping strategies.

We work with over 100 overseas agents worldwide. That network gives us real-time intelligence on capacity, rates, and routing options across every major trade lane. When a new digital channel opens up, we know how to use it to secure better rates and faster bookings for our clients.

1.Technology that works for you

We've invested heavily in technology that gives our clients real visibility – not just a tracking number, but actual insight into what's happening with their shipments. And we combine that with the human touch that platforms alone can't provide. When something goes sideways, you don't get an automated message. You get a call from someone who knows your cargo and knows how to fix the problem.

2.Local knowledge, global reach

Based in Xiamen – one of China's busiest port and air cargo hubs – we combine the global reach of an IATA and FIATA-approved forwarder with the local knowledge of a partner who's been shipping all kinds of goods for over a decade. We've moved over 12,000 TEUs in a single year with a 98.6% on-time delivery rate for our SME clients. That's not luck – it's relentless execution and a network that doesn't fall apart when things get complicated.

The bottom line

Air China Cargo's move onto cargo.one is a big step forward for air cargo digitalization. It means faster quoting, easier booking, and more transparency for forwarders moving freight in and out of China.

But here's the reality: a platform is only as good as the strategy behind it. The forwarders who win in this new digital landscape aren't just the ones who click the fastest – they're the ones who have a partner who understands the market, the routes, and the alternatives when things don't go according to plan.

At Xiamen AE Global, we don't just book space. We help our clients navigate complexity – whether that's using a new digital channel to secure better rates, finding an alternative route when capacity is tight, or simply making sure your cargo gets where it needs to go, on time and on budget.

Because when the industry goes digital, you don't just need a login. You need a partner who knows how to make it work for you.
