According to the latest data from Alphaliner, CMA CGM has officially become the fastest-growing carrier among the world's top ten container lines in the first half of 2026. The Marseille-based company added an eye-catching 235,500 TEU of fleet capacity over just six months, a 5.7% increase that pushed it past MSC – which added 205,000 TEU during the same period. What's driving this surge? CMA CGM took delivery of 12 new vessels in the first half of the year. The flagship of the bunch is the LNG-powered CMA CGM Notre Dame, a 24,212 TEU giant that now leads the French fleet. Alongside it came the LNG-fueled CMA CGM Grand Palais (23,872 TEU) and ten methanol-powered ships ranging from 13,130 to 16,180 TEU.

With its fleet now standing at approximately 4.39 million TEU, CMA CGM has significantly narrowed the gap with Maersk, which sits at roughly 4.73 million TEU. But here's where it gets even more interesting: CMA CGM's newbuilding orderbook totals around 1.8 million TEU, compared to Maersk's 1.2 million. That's a massive advantage in the pipeline.
