Maersk is adding another piece to its transpacific puzzle just in time for the busy summer shipping season. The Danish carrier has announced a new seasonal service connecting Vietnam and South Korea with the U.S. West Coast-a move that signals continued confidence in cross-Pacific cargo demand through the second half of 2026.
The new service, dubbed TPX (Transpacific Loader), is scheduled to set sail on June 9 from Vung Tau, Vietnam, and will operate through the third quarter. The route will call at Shanghai before heading to the Port of Long Beach, then return to Asia via South Korea. [4†L11-L14] The return westbound leg from Long Beach kicks off on July 7.
Maersk describes the TPX as a flexibility play-designed to help customers navigate what's shaping up to be another tight peak season. "The new service will provide greater flexibility to meet our customers' demand during the peak season," the carrier stated.
The timing makes sense. U.S. importers are still wrestling with supply chain disruptions, from Red Sea diversions to shifting sourcing patterns across Asia. And Vietnam has emerged as a major beneficiary of that shift-more and more companies are using the country as a manufacturing hub for goods headed to America.
But here's the part that usually doesn't make the headlines: more routes don't automatically mean smoother sailing.
The other side of the announcement
Alongside the TPX launch, Maersk also rolled out peak-season surcharges across several trade lanes serving Asia, India, and the Middle East. [4†L34-L38] The fees-ranging from roughly 1,000to1,000to1,800 per container depending on route and equipment type-affect shipments bound for the U.S. East Coast, Gulf Coast, Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America. For importers already dealing with rising transportation costs and uncertain trade conditions, that extra burden adds real pressure.
So yes, there's a new vessel on the water. But there's also a higher price tag attached-and that's where the value of an experienced logistics partner really shows up.
Why a good forwarding partner matters more than ever
At XMAE Logistics, we see these market moves for what they are: opportunities to get smarter. A new route doesn't guarantee space, and a surcharge doesn't have to catch you off guard. We don't just move cargo; we move information with equal precision. Our technology provides real-time visibility across every leg of the journey, helping you spot potential bottlenecks before they turn into costly delays.
Think of it this way. When a carrier like Maersk adds capacity, it's good news. But peak season still means tighter space, tighter schedules, and tighter margins. Our job is to translate that market movement into something actionable for your business. We maintain deep relationships with a wide range of carriers-so when one lane gets congested or one route spikes in cost, we've already mapped out alternatives.
Planning ahead, not just reacting
The classic "wait-and-see" supply chain model is cracking under pressure. Consumer expectations for speed and transparency keep rising, while trade routes and regulations remain in constant flux. The winners in 2026 won't be the ones who fight fires all summer. They'll be the ones who forecast where the sparks might start.
That means booking early. Maersk itself has advised shippers to place bookings at least two weeks in advance to secure space and meet cutoffs. It means tracking port performance and carrier reliability. And it means having a partner who learns your business, your peaks, your challenges-and combines that insight with market intelligence to help you move faster and more confidently.
The bottom line
A new seasonal route from Maersk is a welcome sign for anyone shipping between Asia and the U.S. West Coast this summer. But the real headline is this: peak season is coming, and being prepared beats being surprised every time.
Whether you're shipping out of Shanghai, Vung Tau, Busan, or anywhere in between, XMAE Logistics has the network, the technology, and the expertise to keep your cargo moving-without the guesswork.
